about me

I'm 28 and live in central Illinois. I've been married to an amazing man for three years. We have a little white dog and just bought our first house! We are also expecting our first child in October. I LOVE design and photography. I'm busy getting my own business up and going. We also do what we can to be a little more eco-friendly.

such a character

Oh goodness...my weekend! It was packed full with the fifth wedding of the year for Knight Light, an annoying videographer, scorching heat, managing to have normal non-swollen feet all weekend, LOTS of work done on the guest bedroom (it's so cute I can't stand it!), and a truly, truly epic Senior session yesterday.

swinging away

Pictures for all of these things to come. Right now I've got to get started on my week! But I did have to share a couple pictures from a family session a couple weeks ago. Loved taking pictures of these little guys. Have a great week!

Things I'm thinking about this morning

Friday, August 01, 2008

-Wedding #5 of the year, tomorrow!

-Josh's hand on my belly last night.
I whispered, "Are you asleep?" He said, "No".
I whispered again, "Can you feel the baby?"
He replied, "Uh, yeah. And I'm wondering how you go to sleep with that going on!"

-Still craving a cappuccino from Amoco (yes, I realize this is ridiculous). Josh went to get me one last night and they were out. What kind of Amoco runs out of cappuccino mix?

-I have so much cleaning to do before my house guests arrive next weekend!

-I have random purple petunias sprouting in my flowerbed out front.

-I ran out of room on my 500 gig external hard drive. I ordered a terabyte. For you non-geeky folks, that's pretty big.

-I can't believe it's August already!

couple things

on my front porch

I am so glad it's Friday! I finished processing one of my June weddings. After Saturday, I'll have two weddings left to process and two albums to design. I feel like I'm making good time on these. Now if only I had time to clean my trashed house.

Also, my parents bought Josh and I a crib last night. That's just how they are. They mentioned that they could buy us a crib as our "big gift" (although my mom informed me that they'd still be buying other small things). They asked to see ones I liked. I sent them one from Target and next thing I know it's ordered! I can't wait to get it and get the crib bedding in. I feel like that will be a big step towards a finished room.

Here's to the weekend! Hoping I can find some time to sit on my front porch...

did and did not

Monday, June 23, 2008

Things I didn't do this weekend:
- Clean my bathrooms.
- Organize the one section of the house left to organize.
- Take pictures for money.
- Do laundry.
- Take my dog on a walk (although we had every intention of doing so).

Things I did do this weekend:
- Sit in a coffee shop with my husband and enjoy a latte.
mmm...latte

- Prune our grapevine.
grapes are getting bigger

-Enjoy the gorgeous weather. (That is, after our photo session got rained out.)
sun and clouds

- Watch my husband with our niece. And yes, my heart melts a little bit each time.
he's a natural with kids

- Was completely mesmerized by niece's eyes. (I can't wait to take her two year pictures in another month.)

It was one of those really random crazy weekends. Good friends, good food, time with both families, lots of relaxing, and some Knight Light work... Whew!

taking a breather

my mom's tickseed

I really want to write about the last two weddings I shot but I'm not even close to showing any pictures.

I'd love to write about how the house is finally "done" but that's not true.

I'd really like to post about how I'm not feeling completely overwhelmed with Knight Light work but then I'd be lying.

I would like to say that I'll be back tomorrow with lots of stuff to post but that may not be true either.

not what I expected from my evening

Thursday, June 05, 2008

Josh and I had to run over to his parents last night so we ate supper with them and then left early. I had tons of work to do so I wanted to spend the evening processing pictures. On our way home from my in-laws we noticed we were driving into some crazy huge lightning. This was some of the longest and largest lightning I have ever seen. And then the really loud thunder kicked in...

My mom stopped by and Josh was called into work (power outages are not good for him). Soon after the town siren starting going off. I called my dad because he usually is Mr. Weatherman. "Uh, Dad should Mom and I be downstairs?". "Nah", he said. "Okay, but there are some swirly clouds over the Northwest of town".

As we watched, the swirly clouds started to form into a bit of a cone so my mom and I headed out to the front porch to get a better look. Lucky for me, my mom had the good sense to suggest I bring the camera. I was too surprised to even think of it.

first tornado

The first tornado formed probably about four miles out of town but I had a perfect shot of it. We watched the clouds go back up and drop down a couple times. It was so incredible!

second tornado

Soon after that tornado had completely disappeared another one formed to the East. This one was long and skinny but I don't know that it ever actually touched down. It was just so bizarre to see a tornado in real life!

After things died down, I emailed the pictures to my dad. My dad called to say that he sent them on to our local news meteorologist. Sure enough, there they were on the 9 o'clock and 10 o'clock news, even giving me credit for them. Here's the clip of a couple of my pictures on the news.

I got absolutely no work done but I did get my name and pictures on TV. I'd say it was a productive night afterall.

random on a friday

Friday, May 30, 2008

just when I though my lilacs were done

- A few of my friends started twittering so of course I had to join too. What? All the cool kids were doing it.

- Today is my brother's birthday. Happy Birthday, Tony!

- Last night I read the book Mama Knows Breast. I figured since I'm halfway done with this pregnancy I better get to all the books I want to read before the baby is born.

- Congratulations to Pam & Chris on the birth of their son! Seems like just a month or so ago Pam was telling me she was pregnant. We are so excited for them and I'm dying to get my camera on the little guy.

- Looks like we're finally going to make it up to Ikea this weekend to get a few things. I still have boxes sitting out and it's driving me crazy! Hopefully this little shopping trip will put an end to all boxes.

- Oh Friday, thank goodness you're here...

lots 'o recap

Monday, April 14, 2008

latte time

Friday was another doctor's appointment so that meant that Josh and I both got to leave work early. The appointment was super quick and we got to hear the heartbeat again. This time my doctor put the doppler on my belly and right away we could hear it. I know I grin like such a goober but it's so freaking amazing.

After our appointment we did a little shopping and got our new kitchen table and chairs ordered! We played Guitar Hero with Josh's little sister when we got home. Actually Josh and Jenna mostly played. I got mad when they made me try a medium level and I sucked.

Saturday morning Josh and I got up bright and early. We got lattes and then went to the Illinois Sustainable Living and Wellness Expo. I got some information on composting and we also met a woman who is like the queen of cloth diapering. She had so much information and we hope to meet with her in the coming months to see if it's right for us.

Sunday brought a whole lot of packing. I have the entire spare room packed and a lot of the living room. It was such an accomplishment to get so much done. I'm hoping to get the bulk of it done by the end of next weekend. We close next Monday so we'll be able to start taking stuff over throughout next week. I can't believe we're actually moving!

I also worked on some wedding invitations for Knight Light and we watched a lot of episodes of The Office. We finished off Season 2 and started Season 3 last night.

Fact: It was a very good weekend.
Fact: I wish it wasn't over.
Fact: I'm already looking forward to next weekend.

happy

Tuesday, March 04, 2008

Things I'm happy about this morning:
1. Spring is 16 days away.
2. Easter is just around the corner.
3. It's not as gloomy today as it was yesterday.
4. Josh finally admitted defeat and stayed home from work sick. (He should have yesterday but didn't. Of course I'm not happy that he's sick, just staying home.)
5. I got more Cadbury Creme Eggs over the weekend.
6. I'm shooting the first wedding of 2008 next Saturday and I'm excited!
7. It's not Monday.
8. I think that's it, but I felt like I needed an even number.

completely unrelated

Thursday, January 24, 2008

- The other day I got an email from Anthropologie inviting me to preview the spring clothes. Birds even chirp on the opening page. I definitely got my first twinge of spring fever, especially since right now the actual temperature is 7 below.

- I came across a website called Catalog Choice that will help you eliminate unwanted catalogs. I love to get the Pottery Barn catalog just as much as the next person but it's also not necessary. I can go to the website just as easily and that doesn't require wasting any paper. I signed up for Catalog Choice and started going through the catalog list to see what I receive. I couldn't believe how many I actually got once I started checking them off. Every little bit helps!

- The Museum of Modern Art recently acquired a piece of art by Jenny Holzer that I really like.

- I like wikipedia.

- I keep thinking it's Friday. It's not.

- Josh and I are babysitting our niece tonight. Expect pictures.

photography randomness

Friday, January 04, 2008

"The problem with photography is that it's such an accessible art form. People don't understand the fine line between recreation and art." Josh said that last night. I think that's why I sometimes can get down on myself about photography. Anyone with a nice camera thinks they are a professional photographer now. When really it's not about the camera or equipment you have... I truly believe that you can have a crappy little camera but have natural talent, and still make it as a photographer.

Yesterday was day three of not doing a 365 picture. All evening I had to keep reminding myself that I didn't have to take a picture. Around 10:00pm I couldn't stand it anymore and had to snap a picture. Hmm... I may be doing another year of 365. While I'm still deciding, there are a few of my friends doing the project! Yay for Eunice, Sondra, and Jess. Way to go, girls. You can do it! I really think that doing a 365 project is such a great thing. The easiest way to improve your picture taking ability? Take more pictures. This project forces that!

friday randomness

Friday, December 14, 2007

So I noticed that often times Fridays are super random and just miscellaneous thoughts put in one post. I figured maybe I should just make a label for it and go with it.

- I have no idea how this happened but as of right now that little video of Bebo and his snow boots has been viewed 11,377 times in the past five days. And it's #18 Most Viewed (This Week) in the Pets & Animals categories. Wha-huh? Added (12:00pm): The video was just featured on Worldwide Fido. Crazy!

- Two, maybe three months ago, my drivers side window stopped working. It just wouldn't roll down, no matter how often I try it. Yesterday I was driving home for lunch thinking about the things I want the dealership to look at when I finally take my car in. I thought, "Especially this darn window...". I pressed the button down and it rolled down. I laughed out loud!

- I am addicted to clementines. I'm averaging about three or four a day.

- My husband and I love movies, especially going to the movie theater. However we rarely go because it's hard to spend that much money on a movie. We decided to go to a movie tonight but now can't really pick one. The movie I really want to see (Juno) isn't playing in our area.

- We watched The Science of Sleep last night. It was very odd in an interesting sort of way. It felt to be without much of a plot but what do you expect from a movie about dreams.

- I love this! It's called the human calendar. Everyday everyone looks at the person on that specific date. I really don't know what I like about it. It's just one of those things, I suppose.

some good news

Friday, November 30, 2007

yo, just a reminder

-Today is Friday!
-Back to the Future: The Complete Trilogy is on sale at Amazon for $13! (I'd buy it if I didn't already have it.)
-Tomorrow is December 1st which to me officially kicks of the holiday season.
-Our good friend, Chrystal (also known as Stick), got accepted into the Peace Corp! She'll be headed to Africa in June. I have convinced her that she needs a Nikon D40 and a Flickr account to document everything.
-I'm done processing another photo shoot...that means I'm finally caught up! Only two more shoots scheduled for the year!
-Josh and I are going to eat some Noodles tonight.
-I'm almost done with my 365 set on Flickr. I have enjoyed doing it but now that I'm towards the end, I'm running out of inspiration.
-Did I mention that I'm almost done with my Christmas shopping? I have my mom and dad left to buy for and Josh's stocking. Not bad at all!

Hope you have some good news today!

and now for some random thoughts

Tuesday, November 20, 2007

I am finally feeling like I'm catching up on Knight Light work. I am down to two sessions (engagement pictures and a Senior shoot) to process. Woohoo! I'm looking forward to having some downtime this winter so I can get some crafting done.

I have been listening to Christmas music for over a week now. A radio station around here started playing Christmas music non-stop so I took advantage of it. I haven't decorated the apartment even though I've thought about it!

Josh and I are considering getting this sweater and this one for our Christmas picture. Yes, they are totally coordinating. I think that's why we like it. It would be slightly hokie and cheesy which you know, is so us.

High of 67 degrees today... Hmmm, 2 days before Thanksgiving in Central Illinois and it's going to be in the upper 60's? That is messed up. I still wore a sweater today.

A few Thanksgivings ago I asked Josh's mom what I could bring to the Thanksgiving dinner. I don't think she really needed me to bring anything but I insisted. She suggested I bring the sweet potatoes. That would never have been my choice. One, I had never made them before and two, I don't even like them! I agreed anyway and brought them to dinner. Apparently they were very good because everyone flipped out over them. Now every year I have to bring the sweet potatoes. Tip: Use lots of butter and brown sugar!

I got a new stocking hat over the weekend and now it's too warm to wear it. I tried it on as a joke in the store but then ended up really liking it.

I really love this scene from Funny Face with Audrey Hepburn. "I don't want to stop. I like it! Take the picture!"

just some thoughts, mostly random

Friday, May 11, 2007

just relaxing

Weather - I love this weather. Josh, Bebo and I laid on my parents' hammock for awhile last night. Little kids were playing t-ball in the baseball diamond near there...what a great feeling. Looking forward to some more...

Flickr - I found a new flickr photostream, twelve22. Beautiful pictures and now I want to go bake. Also I can't stop looking at this photo called "Medicine of my smile".

How to Charm Me - The other night while driving home, Josh suddenly grips the wheel and shouts, "10 and 2". He proceeds to drive the last two miles home as a driver's ed student, complete with jerky braking and nervous turning. He pulled into our driveway and had to do a three point turn to park, he looks down and apologizes. I told him that he did very well for his first time and just to remember to signal.

Green - Apparently Rachel McAdams has a project called "green is sexy". If I were a celebrity I would totally use my popularity for something like this. Turns out I'm not famous so I'll just keep having a girl crush on Rachel McAdams and her environmental self.

now if only it would rain

Wellies - I have wanted rainboots (or commonly known as wellies) for a couple years now. I finally found some on Target.com that weren't super expensive and really cute. I have been planning an outfit since I first ordered them. I have thought about it for the month and a half those boots were backordered. Now they're here and I feel chicken to wear them.

Fridays - Why are Fridays always so random?

my husband rocks and random knight light thoughts

how my husband sees me

I think this is one of my most favorite self portraits ever. I took it randomly last night after I had just gone through 20 pictures that I hated for my 365 set. I hadn't been inspired by anything I had taken so I held the camera out and shot myself. I lucked out because I actually got something in focus. I told Josh that I needed a poetic title for it on Flickr. He thought and thought and finally came up with "How My Husband Sees Me". I smiled and he said, "It's because you look like an angel and that's how I see you". Sorry that's pretty sappy but I just had to share yet again what a lucky girl I am.

Speaking of how lucky I am, Josh has been helping me out with Knight Light stuff like expanding my website to include wedding photography information. I have planned on developing a F.A.Q. page and different packages for weddings. He worked on both of those yesterday and came up with some really creative things. Awesome names for our wedding packages and witty answers to our frequently asked questions...so stay tuned for web page updates.

I've decided to take off work early today and also take Monday off. Knight Light full steam ahead! I've got my To Do List ready (obviously) so I'm going to mark off as much as I can.

One of the things I was really stressing about was a wedding invitation that I've been working on. I came up with a really pretty invite that the couple really liked. However, they wanted to change some of the design by adding roses. Do you know how complicated roses are? I worked forever on Wednesday night and just wasn't happy with what I was coming up with. I finally quit and decided I would start from scratch this weekend. I received an email from the bride last night saying that on second thought they liked the design I came up with initially! Whew. No roses after all...

I'm looking forward to working at my computer this weekend but also taking time to hang out with my husband. We haven't had a weekend that wasn't jam-packed in two months. Besides shooting some fun pictures of my brother and fiance, we have nothing major planned. Here's to the weekend!

Friday is Random

Friday, March 16, 2007

hello, my name is chuck

Do you ever have a funny story to tell someone but when you type it out or finish telling them you realize it wasn't that funny? Josh and I always have these really random conversations that make us sound hilarious. However, when I go to repeat them or write them on here...well, they're not that funny.

from What the Duck

Josh and I are shooting a wedding on Saturday. The weather is supposed to be beautiful although slightly cooler than earlier this week. I'm looking forward to the wedding because the couple seems like they're pretty easygoing. It should be fun to take them outside and get some pictures.

Loving these design blogs: desire to inspire and decor8. I'm planning how I want to decorate the house that someday we're going to buy. After having the county sheriff stop by our apartment building three times in the past week, I'm even more anxious to move out. That and the embarrassing, enormous pile of junk that has formed out back...well, it's pushed me over the edge. So ready to get out of this junk-hole...

today is random

Friday, November 10, 2006

- Made the switch to blogger beta yesterday. Now my goal is to add labels to all of my entries. Added a Bebo tag...good grief, I write about my dog a lot. (Also, I switched my template today and not all of the pages changed with it. Still working out the kinks...)

- I got Coffeemate Pumpkin Spice creamer. It is yummy! I'm definitely enjoying my coffee this morning.

- Josh and I are going to Champaign tonight to hang out with Pam and Chris. Josh asked last night if we should take the PS2. Uh, no. I told him not to scare them off...we like them!

- Tomorrow I'm shooting Kate's 3-month pictures. I'm wishing I had a studio.

- My in-laws are in Costa Rica right now on a missions trip. It reminds me of when I went on my missions trip. (Which I don't think I've ever written about...I'll have to do that.)

- This week I sold 7 scarves and made a hundred bucks from them. That was pretty exciting.

- Last night I watched some NFL recap show with Josh. I had planned on going to bed but instead got into the show. They did a bit about one of my fantasy players, Roy Williams. I like him even more now. After the show, I pointed out to Josh that I had just stayed up to watch that show with him. He said, "Yeah, I noticed and was confused." Just keepin' it interesting, folks.

- I haven't bought a new purse/bag in awhile. I started feeling the pull again this week. I'm thinking about asking my mother-in-law if I can borrow a purse for awhile. It would be new to me and it's not like she'd miss one. She has BOXES of purses in the attic. We're talking Coach, Burberry...a bunch of other names that don't mean anything to me. It would be like Christmas.

- Speaking of Christmas, I'm really ready to start shopping. It's not as much fun though when you know you have to stick to a strict budget.

- I really hate the word verification thing on blogger posting (in beta) and commenting. I always mess them up and have to do it again.
