friday at the zoo

Josh and I went to Brookfield Zoo on Friday and had such a good time. Poor Josh had never been to any zoo before! I just can't imagine not going as a kid. My parents used to take my brother and I. I have so many fond memories from the zoo, especially of my parents talking for the animals.
We especially loved the rhino and hippo. The cool thing about Brookfield is that you feel like you're pretty close to the animals. The monkey house is one of the best parts too. You walk at tree level so we were right across from most of the monkeys and gorillas.
We spent the day there and walked pretty much the entire zoo. I did surprisingly well walking that much although I started to tank out at the end. It was a lot of fun to come out cameras a-blazin'. Trying to get interesting zoo pictures was fun in itself. (We weren't even the biggest camera nerds there.) We definitely want to go back when it's a little cooler. (We didn't get to see any of the bears which was a bummer.) I woke up Saturday morning and thought "I want to go back to the zoo!".

If for some reason you two find yourself in Phoenix in the next 2 years, let me know. My best friend's hubby is a zookeeper there and gives the best behind-the-scenes tours ever. If it's after that, we're hoping he'll be giving the same tours at the Denver Zoo. :)
