about me

I'm 28 and live in central Illinois. I've been married to an amazing man for three years. We have a little white dog and just bought our first house! We are also expecting our first child in October. I LOVE design and photography. I'm busy getting my own business up and going. We also do what we can to be a little more eco-friendly.

Last night I worked at cutting away old plants and weeds that were surrounding my precious peonies. Although I'm a little daunted by all of the weeds in my yard that need to be pulled, I really am excited to get to it. I have great plans for my yard and I can't wait to see them out. I do think first on the list is pulling out the front bushes and planting some flowers. I need a flower that is low to the ground, will spread out and likes shade. (They have to be low so they don't cover our downstairs windows.) Suggestions?

Josh and I also spent a lot of time trying to get the garage organized. It was a big relief to get so much done in there. Now it's back to the house where we have pictures to hang and storage to buy. Whew, so much to do!

My suggestion for the flowers would be impatiens. I always do red and white impatiens in my flower box and they like the shade. My grandma used to plant them in front of her porch as well, and they spread out like crazy. I think they would probably stay short enough to avoid obstructing your windows. I don't think mine have ever gotten too much taller than a foot high.

Another suggestion would be petunias or wave petunias, although I'm not sure how much light they require. Or pansies! I just planted a bunch of pansies and they are so cute.

No matter what you end up choosing, you'll definitely have fun and the best thing is you can switch it up for years to come, experimenting with what you like best! :)
I think I am going to go with some impatiens in the front. I have some planters in the back that I might put some pansies in because they're such a cute flower! I'm so excited to do some planting. We picked a great time of year to move into the house!
Gross. I hate impatiens. I hate them almost as much as I hate geraniums.

I like wave petunias (though i'm not really a big fan of petunias). Pansies are good. I like lillies also. Hydrangea and lilac are my favorite ("endless summer" hydrangea is incredible, my absolute, number one favorite flower/plant in the entire universe)

PS. One summer i worked at flower shop... i also helped out at their organic farm.

pps. My bag is full of tricks i bet you never knew.
