the security guard

After Jess and I had checked into our hotel room in Milwaukee on Friday night we decided to walk down to the convention center. We were anxious to get a peek at the bead show and see what it was all about. We checked things out for a bit and then headed back down to the lobby. Coming into the lobby I noticed a security guard in the corner keeping watch. As we walked past him I smiled at him but he didn't seem very friendly and didn't smile back.

The next morning Jess and I were talking and she mentioned the security guard. She thought it was weird how they had a fake guy in the lobby. Um, he wasn't fake! I couldn't believe that she thought he was fake and told her that he was real. She asked why he was behind a little rope thing and I told her I figured that's just where he was standing. Jess finally agreed that he was a real person.

We headed down to the bead show and a couple entered the lobby just ahead of us. They walked right up to the security guard in the lobby and leaned in real close to him. I actually felt embarrassed not only for them but for the security guard. And then I realized that Jess was right...he was fake!

He looked so real! Later in the day while waiting for Jess I sat across from him in the lobby and watched everyone's reaction. People nervously walked close to make sure that he was in fact fake. They should have a little video camera built into him to get the reactions. Of course, then I thought about how I had smiled at him the day before and felt a little miffed that he didn't have the courtesy to at least smile back.

He sure does look real! What a strange and quirky little (phoney) man.
