about me

I'm 28 and live in central Illinois. I've been married to an amazing man for three years. We have a little white dog and just bought our first house! We are also expecting our first child in October. I LOVE design and photography. I'm busy getting my own business up and going. We also do what we can to be a little more eco-friendly.

what? no power?

Friday, April 14, 2006

So we're without power... There was a huge storm last night and I ended up in my bathroom hugging my dog. Hail, rain...everything. Now my town has no power. I showered in the dark and made it to work. Work has a generator but my cubicle doesn't have power. I borrowed this computer so I could check my email!

I guess I'm going to go home for the day because not much I can do without power. At least it's a good excuse to take some time off, right?

Edited (10:40 a.m.): Well, our power came back on. I had already left home so I'm just using some vacation time. I had just talked to my mom about trying to get some of our food over to my in-laws because we had heard it could be 12 hours until we had power. Not five minutes later the power switched back on. As soon as it did I heard a popping sound outside so Josh and I went out to look. Our air conditioning unit was smoking and shooting sparks! Josh got the fire extenguisher but we didn't need it. It burnt itself right up. Nice, huh?

Man, last night was nuts. I got hardly any sleep. Our bedroom window had rain coming in through the top and I was sure it was going to get blown out. Definitely scary! Luckily it doesn't look like there was too much damage here in town.

Now I'm home for the day so that's exciting. I made some 7 layer dip and cleaned. I'm putting my time to good use!

Kimberly,

We had crazy weather here last night, too, although fortunately we did not lose power. It was thunderstorming like crazy and there one particular HUGE clap of thunder that shook my house and scared me to death. I thought a tree fell on our roof or something. I didn't sleep well at all, because I'm always paranoid about tornadoes. Then I clicked on the TV and saw that Iowa had like 20 of them.

SCARY!
Wow. That sounds like quite a storm. At least everyone's okay. Too weird about your A/C unit though. Will your landlord replace it for you? I'm sure you'll want that in a few months.
Shoot, I totally want my AC today. It's been in the lowers 80s here and the apartment is stifling. Absolutely no breeze...I have actually thought twice today, "I should just turn on the air". My landlord did say that they would get that replaced but who knows how long it will take. I'll have to keep bugging them.
